Rogue Oracle Guide!

I couldn't decide what to write, so I decided to post (poast) another guide. Full 100% credit to Paramond Master to writing this awesome and interesting-as-hell guide. Here is the guide:

---------------------------------------------------------

Paramond's Rogue Oracle

This guide assume you know the basic for RO and how it works and this is for those who wants to know a bit more about the Rogue and the different built to this wonderful character on RO. As it is the very first time I write something like this, please feel free to correct and comment on all my mistakes. I hope you enjoy this guide.

First thing first:

It is spelt ROGUE repeat after me R-O-G-U-E, Not Rouge as it is a colour or lipstick in French.

1 Why Rogue?

Rogue is the only character on RO who can be proficient in both melee and range type weapon. He has one of the most powerful melee attacking skills in the game namely Backstab (BS) and he can equip decent armor especially a race reduction buckler (Thara, Orc War, Big Foot and Khali Cards) but at the same time has the same flee as a sneaky Assassin. But the most unique thing about Rogue is his stripping skills -- it is the ability to unequip enemy's weapons and armors during the heat of battle thus making them defenceless and powerless in battle. This is the most sort after skill in WoE and provides a decent challenge in PvP for any melee character. Rogue also has the ability to copy (Intimidate) other character's skill for their own usage and having lv 10 heal is always nice. Furthermore, Rogue can solo effectively all the way to level 99 without much pain. So its a pretty much all rounded character.

Another reason you may consider playing Rogue is his ability to auto steal (Gank) during melee combat. Different people had so many different stories about ganking some of the most valuable items in the game. The best one so far is s.glove from ancient mummy and an evil band from deviruchi. Rogue has the potential to double your loot income and lands you some rare (including cards but the chance of that is even lower than it drops).

However disadvantage about Rogue is he is not your MVP Boss killer type character. He has low HP bonus even with decent vit and his advance 2-2 class skill is not as revolution as SinX.

2. How to become a Rogue

There is many links cover this topic already and I've included this from Lune's FAQ

Quote:

Go to Faros Lighthouse Island (Located at 196,117). You can go there by Comodo warp. Talk to the NPC there, and proceed to talk to the old man nearby to take tests.

First, you will have to collect some items and bring it back.
When you bring it back, you are asked to distribute those items to Hollgrenn Na, Aragarm, or Junior. These guys are located (NOT in refine buildins!) in a east field from the Lighthouse. Go there, and solve the secret code.

When you return, you will take a final test, a test to see if you can escape a dungeon. When you pass this, you can finally become a Rogue.

The NPC's location is

And the items requirement thanks to Skyrmir for these, more detail link is

Quote:

10 green herbs, 10 snake scales, 10 crab shells, and 10 garlet + 10k),

10 horrendous mouths, 10 decayed nails, 10 skel bones, 6 blue herbs

5 Chrysalis
5 empty bottle
5 iron ore
5 stone heart
5 red herb
5 animal skin
5 yellow gemstone
5 Tooth of bat
5 scorpion tail
5 yoyo tail
5 monster feed
5 fluff
5 clover
5 feather of bird
5 condor nail
5 spawn
10 Raccoon Leaf

yellow herb
shell (from chonchon)
bug leg (argos) (grasshopper leg?)
bear footskin

Some pointers for the quest: the difficulty of the dungeon depends on which item collection quest you recieved. The one with 20 different items but 5 item each will land you a much easier dungeon, almost a straight line. The rest contains a few turn and twists. Back Slides helps you to get pass difficult mob but not necessary. And whatever you do DO NOT walk pass spawn points more than twice because the mob will regenerate regardless so you may end up having 400 skeletons on your ass.

3. Stat for Rogue

Strength - very important for a melee dagger Rogue who's Back Stabbing damage is based on strength. Also you will need your strength for normal leveling and potion/loot carry from ganking.
Recommended Value: 70 min - 90 base for melee Dagger Rogue, 110 is possible (with gear and job
bonus) for ultra damage. Not so important for Bow Rogue perhaps 10 to help carry arrows and potions.

Agi - very important for both melee and range rogue. As it gives you ADSP and flee for your normal leveling needs. A dagger rogue can reach up to 184 ADSP with max Agi gear, Beserk. Buff and Damascus. But 177 ADSP can be done quite easily and comfortably without affecting other important stat like strength. For Bow Rogue, its more important to have enough Agi to give a decent ADSP as Rogue class has the lowest bow weapon speed. 182 is possible but normally its around 173 with decent agi and dex.
Recommend Value: 70 - 80 base for PvM Rogue, 80+ for Bow Rogue, 60 - 70 base for WoE (some can go as low as 50agi but I wouldn't recommend unless you are hardcore) and 70+ for PvP.

Vit - Only important if you going to participate in WoE and PvP otherwise I shall remain at 1 because you won't be doing MVPing especially now with the buff after Amatsu and Kuloon. Vit prevents you from Stun (HF from Smithies) and you want to have enough HP so you can last long enough to strip your opponent. For WoE, the normal value these days is 35 base + 5 jb =40. But for hardcore WoE, people can go up to 75 base + 5 = 80 vit.
Recommend Value: 35 - 55 for WoE. But no recommended for PvM cos thats what potion and priest is for.

Int - interestingly Int is good for Rogue because it helps to regen SP so you can strip more. But not too much, leave it either at 2+4 or 8 + 4 for the next SP regen bonus. However with the new intermediate fix where you can save your copied skill even after you log out/ change map. It may be a good idea to have just a few extra SP to compensate for the 150% for SP usage on the skill.
Recommend Value: 2 - 8 base up to 20 int for hardcore SP skill spamming.

Dex - this is what makes a Rogue stands out from the rest of Melee character. Dex is important for rogue not because it gives you Hit and ADSP. It also helps you both in your stealing chances as well as your stripping chances. So regardless of you are a pure stripper or PvM ganker, you still need your Dex somewhere around 60 ish at least for PvM and at least 80ish for strippers. However, with the new Steal formula where the success rate is based on the steal level rather than so much on dex. Pure PvM Rogue may actually be decent with only 40 dex. So saving some for agi or more strength.

~~ Steal Formula ~~
Quote:

Current Steal Formula: [StealRate = DropRate*((YourDex - MonsterDex + 10 + 3*S.Lv)/100)]

For example: A Rogue with 40 dex attacking Eggrya and your chance to steal a R.Elu =
0.57% (from Rouniverse.Net) *((40 - 32 (from RagnaInfo,net) + 10 + 3*10)/100)
= 0.57% * 0.48% = 0.2736

Same example but with a Rogue having 80 dex
= 0.57 % *0.88% = 0.5016%

Looking at the formula also, you can see that if your DEX is much higher than the enemy. >60 difference, than you will have 1 to 1 stealing chace or sometimes more if the difference is high enough.

Also note that this will be changed later with the new steal formula.

Edit the following is by Dashiva regarding the new Steal formula

Dashiva wrote:

No solid numbers in place yet, but a sketch of sorts does exist. euRO testers report that skill mod was doubled and dex mod halved, which matches what Yeef and I found on iRO. However, zero-stealing seems disabled on iRO and apparently not on euRO.

Steal mod = 10 + 0.5*dex + 6*skill - 0.5*monster dex

Steal mod has to be greater than zero for steal to be possible. Exactly what happens afterwards is unknown. It could be steal mod * x * drop rate, or it could be something else entirely. Might need a bow rogue for boundry testing. But anyway, just estimates, no solid results.

So according to that with the same example before with max steal

New Steal Mod = 10 + 0.5*40 + 6*10 - 0.5*32
= 62 percent = 0.62 * 0.57 = 0.3534

At dex 80:

New Steal Mod = 10 + 0.5*80 + 6*10 - 0.5*32
= 94 percent = 0.94 * 0.57 = 0.5358

So comparing the old and the new

40 dex -- 0.62 (new) 0.48 (old)
80 dex -- 0.94 (new) 0.88 (old)

So dex will still helps out in ganking but even more so with the new steal formula. Atm this is not confirm yet, so you can still base your dex at around 60 for a good ganking rate.

~~ Strip Formula ~~
Quote:

Current Strip Formula: 5 + 2 * Skill Level + (Your DEX - Enemy DEX) / 5

This applies for all armor and weapon stripping skills.

For example: A Rogue with 80 dex and max strip skills stripping a Sin with 40 dex

5 + 2*5 + (80-40)/5 = 23% to strip successfully

Looking at the formula this way, you can say that for each dex you have greater than your enemy you will improve your stripping chance by 0.2 percent. Thus the high dex the better for a professional stripper. So 110 dex to 40 dex enemy the chance is like = 29%

Luck - No need for Rogue for any build. Leave that to Sin.

4. Skills for Rogue

This section I am just going over some of the essential Rogue skills.

a. Sword Mastery

Quote:
A basic Rogue skill which is mastered at lvl 10.
Same as Swordman's Sword Mastery, improve the one handed sword and dagger damage.

YES it gives you attack bonus when using Dagger type weapon too. But the damage WILL NOT be included in the BackStab damage calculation. This is nicely explained by Celtic Midori:

Celtic Midori wrote:
The difference between a 1 str backstab without swordmastery and a 1 str backstab with 10 swordmastery is 40 damage. The different between a 100 str backstab without swordmatery and a 100 str backstab with 10 swordmastery is 40 damage.

You have your weapon and base attack, then skill mods, then defense mods, THEN mastery mods. If backstab was upped to 100000% damage, the difference between a 0 swordmastery and 10 swordmastery backstab is STILL 40 damage.

Yes, cards do affect mastery damage, but skill mods DO NOT.... if you use a triple bloody, you get 64 damage on demi humans rather than just 40.

Any sort of mastery helps only for normal attacking, and minimally for skills. With sword mastery, on a normal attack with no cards or elements, you'll get 40 extra damage. On a skill you use, you'll get 40 extra damage. If the monster has 2000 vit and 100 defense, you'll still get 40 extra damage.

Despite all that, SM is still a good skill to have for a PvM because the 40 damage will be calculated before your double slash, even better when combine with damge enhance card. So a 3 s.glad with 3 hydra card doing 1.6 more damage to demi-human: 40 *1.6 = 64 and say each normal attack is 400 so a double slash with SM = 400 + 64 = 464 *2 = 928 as oppose to no SM 400 *2 = 800.

Comment: Personally I think this is good only if you are going to focus more on PvM and normal leveling with your Rogue. And every bit helps and since Dagger class already has size penalty on large and medium monster. So it may be a nice compensation for it. For Strippers and Bow Rogue not very useful and you could spend you 10 skill points better somewhere else.

b. Gank

Quote:
Automatically cast steal skill by chance while fighting. Skill level of Steal and Gank affect on the chance of stealing items from monsters.

This is the most fun skill for PvM Rogue because this helps a Rogue to get some extra pocket money with no extra cost. Sometimes you can even gank rares (s.glove!!!!) and cards. However this skill only works with daggers. The maximum chance for this skill 20% it is the chance for you to activate your steal skill. So if you only have level 2 steal , each successful gank will only cast a level 2 steal. And each successful gank will use the steal formula listed above.

For example: A 60 dex rogue attacking a Eggrya, the chance of ganking something each time you
attack. Assuming steal and gank is maxed.

0.2 * [DropRate*((YourDex - MonsterDex + 10 + 3*S.Lv)/100)]

DropRate * (0.2 * (60 - 32 + 10 + 3*10)/100)

= 0.136 * DropRate

Looking from the formula we can say that each dex above your enemy will give you 0.2% chance to gank something from a monster. Of course that will depends on the drop rate of particular items as well.

Comment: If you are a dagger Rogue MAX it no question ask, even if you are a WoE stripper, I would still go for this over SM. Because this saves you time on collecting loots while leveling if you don't feel like picking things up. With this skill when you go to places with high value normal loot such as TF2, TI surface, Prison you can potentially double your income and gather your riches quite quickly indeed. However don't expect to be a millionares by having a Rogue as the above thread suggested, it all comes down to luck as well. For Stripper/Bow Rogue, you may like to try this out for fun factor since you need to equip a dagger and you won't be killing fast enough with it to level effectively.

c. Mug

Quote:
Extorts zeny from monsters. Allows the user to steal zeny only once from a monster, however it is possible to steal zeny from monsters that the user stole items before.
DEX, LUK and the level difference between the caster and the target affect on the success chance. Consumes 15 SP.

When you first read about this skills, I am sure you will go crazy like most of us do. Wow free zeny I am going to be rich!!!! But after you've read the fine print and try it out in practice a few times. Your dream of becoming a millionare from this skill will be utterly shattered. The fact that this skill base on a chance 10% max everytime you use the spell. And each cast consumes 15 SP, so you can imagine you could cast mug 10 times and still get nothing. Meanwhile you've spent 150 SP which could have use for heal, BS, DS, Intermediate etc. Also the fact that your success chance base on the level difference between your DEX and LUCK while the amount you can mug is based on the monster level. The most people could mug each time is a few k on prisoners. Which if you just level normally and pick up/gank loot you will make the same amount plus experience.

Comment: Not recommended to max it, but leave it a 4 for prereq for Backstab

d. Backstab

Quote:
Attacks a target at the back. Target cannot avoid this attack since it's an attack from behind the sight. Also this skill is usable while hiding.
Consumes 16 SP.

This is one of the most powerful melee attacking skills in RO 700% increase while Mammo from BS is 600% and cost 1k too. The fact that it always hit regardless of your ememy's flee is what makes this scary little skill. However the disadvantage of this skill is you have to be at the back of your opponent to cast. For example if you opponent is facing left:

Code:

OOY
OEY
OOY

Y - You
E - Enemy
O - Empty Space

Y is the position you need to be in order to be able to cast BS. Similarly if your opponent is facing right:

Code:

YOO
YEO
YOO

Y - You
E - Enemy
O - Empty Space

You got to be in the Y position to cast BS.

It is not hard to perform in PvM, especially aggressive ones, just wait till it comes next to you and then you just walk 2 sqaure to the direction it comes from and start spamming BS. So:

Code:

OOO
OYO <- E enemy is approaching you from right
OOO

OOO
OYE enemy is next to you and start attacking
OOO

OOO
OYE just walk two cells to your right and you will be position for Backstab
OArrowArrow
OOO

OOO
OEY DIE! BS BS BS...
OOO

Keep in mind in WoE however, people do actually move away from your BS unless they are stunned. Even 1 cell away from you is enough to prevent BS from happening. So its not like Mammo where you can spam again and again provided you have enough money.

However since you can BS while hidden, you can use it for surprise attack when the enemy doesn't have sight or busy casting to know your approach.

Also there are a few confusion at the damage rate for using Bow and Dagger type in kRO. So possibly in iRO as well. When it first introduce, Rogue using Bow will only do ½ damage using BS so 350% with bow and full damage 700% with dagger. Gravity then decided to unnerf bow so they can have full 700% damage. But recent patch they change it back so bow only does 350% again. Meanwhile dagger is 700% all the time.

Also initially once you get into the right position for BS, you can spam as many time as you like provided you have enough SP. Because previously there was a bug in monster AI that even though the graphic is showing it is facing you but the game still register you are behind it. Thats how some Rogue can MVP before the Amatsu patch. However they've changed it now so everytime you successfully hit a target with BS, you will automatically knock the enemy 1 square backwards, this in effect makes you have to get into position for BS again. Now the most recent update is that the knockback is gone, but the emeny will automatically turn and face you. So you have to get to the BS postion again.

Another fact to consider that is BS has a delay which is affected by your ADSP. (Not sure need someone to confirm this). So higher ADSP does help a little on BS spamming.

iRO right at this moment however you can skill spam BS with no knockback and no automatic facing you. So abuse it while you can.

Also from above, SM does not included in the calculation of BS. So regardless of your SM, your will still do Attack * 700% + 40 BS each time.

Comment: Really now in PvM these days you hardly use it because by the time you get yourself into BS postion you could almost do 2 double slash and 1 single attack. So its not really worth it with PvM but its fun to be able to do 3k damage or even more with a priest lex it before hand. I suppose it will make a nice SS or avantar. For WoE sometimes its useful for those who's back is turned or when you are hidden (hardly possible with sight and detect from wizzy and priest), stunned or too busy attacking Emp and cannot notice you. However it is still a good combo when you've successfully stripped armors, shield and weapon from the enemy and rendering them helpness and defenceless and have to EAT you BS everytime. But its either max it or not get it spell. So if you want to do massive single attack both PvM and WoE go for it and its one of those cookie build skill.

e. Snatch (Raid)

Quote:
Warps both the target and caster to a random location. Not usable on Boss Monsters. As higher level the caster is, as lower level the target is, the success rate will be increased.

This is not available in WoE but you can use it in PvP. Not much use in WoE and PvP. But there is a few uses for PvM. It gets you out of mobbing situation, just teleport both you and monster you are hitting to somewhere safer. (not necessary all the time).

However if your last hit with Snatch kills the enemy, all the loots and rares will NOT teleport with you to the new spot. So if you snatch a whisper as a last hit and a card drop. You will be teleported somewhere and hopefully you remember where you were before the card disappeared or someone picked it up.

This works with both Bow and Dagger since it is not weapon determined.

Comment: Not very useful and for PvM you can get it for fun and out mobbing. However as a strippers or bow rogue you won't have enough spare skill points just to try this out.

f. Sightless Mind

Quote:
Only usable while hiding. Does splash attack within 3*3 cells around the caster. The targets within this area will have a chance to be stunned or blinded by chance at the same time. When used, this skill cancels hiding status immediately.
Consumes 20 SP.

This skills when max will give you 25% chance to stun and blind your enemy but its only usable while hidding. So the total SP cost for this spell is 10 (hide) + 20 (SM) = 30SP for 300% increase damage and 25% stun and blind. Sound pretty good but here is my thought on this skill.

For WoE I give it an U - for useless because many people will have high vit these days to prevent HF from Smithies and they won't get stun for long. Blind? Whoopydo! Unless they are range or spell attackers this won't affect them much at all. If you really want to stun someone get a quad stun MG for that much faster and save the SP for stripping.

For PvM I give it a S for Slightly useful, its good for detecting hidding monster like pest or whispers when they decides to go hide and seek on you. Besides that it doesn't stun or blind them long enough to be very useful at all! It may help you save from mobs but Hide->SM = 30SP and you need to spam a few times to kill the mob so rather save the SP for heal clip. But I will prefer this over Snatch for pure PvM because sometimes its a pain to deal with hidden whispers or pests.

g. Stalk

Quote:
Allows its user to move slowly while hiding.

Regardless of there is a bug in this skill or not, and regardless whether Gravity will actualy fix it in the future. This skill is not worth to max it in my opinion because the speed difference between lvl 1 and lvl 5 is very little, and later on Stalker will have chasewalk which will replace this skill later on anyway.

Due to its slow speed its not very useful in WoE especially when your enemy will have sight and sensing skills on all the time anyway.

Thanks to Yumiko we now have some definate data

Yumiko wrote:

TD1 = 321 (46.7%)
TD2 = 312 (48.0%)
TD3 = 303 (49.5%)
TD4 = 294 (51.0%)
TD5 = 285 (52.6%)

where lower means faster.

As you can see the difference between 1-5 is only 6% so its not very noticable and useful at all.

Comment: I will leave this at 2 max for slightless mind prereq. Otherwise I will get 1 so I can walk slowly away from mob while hidden.

h. Intimidate

Quote:
Use the last skill from the last enemy dealt with. Skill level affects the level of skill the caster can remember.
Only memorizes the character skills, it is impossible to memorize exclusive skills for monsters. For instance when a user`s hit by Bash lvl 10 at Intimidate lvl 5, the user will be able to use Bash lvl 5.

Some notes on this skill:

You can only 1 skill that DAMAGE you the last time. If you got hit by another spell, the new one will replace the old one.

No you cannot choose which one to memorise, as long as you got hit you will memorise the spell.

Depends on the skills delay time, and depends on whether you have the right equip to recast that spell. For example Double Strafe needs a bow, Sonic bow needs a Katar. So you can't copy Sonic because Rogue can't equip Sonic, even though you get hit from a matyr.

Monster do cast other spells such as FD (stormy globins), JT from Deviriuchi so if you can damage by it you can memorise it.

Atm you can only copy heal provided that you are wearing evil druid armor.

You need to spend 50% extra SP from the original skill to cast intimidate, so for example bash is 20 SP you will need to us 30 SP to recast it, so it may drain your SP quickly if you don't have decent int. So for spell like SG at lv 10 you actually need to use 117 SP to recast.

Apparently, Gravity fixed the skill (as of Amatsu) so that you keep the skills regardless of map changes or even logging off. So you can finally keep your lv 10 Heal.

You can also copy passive skills which damage you, for example Trifacta Blow from Monk and it will reexecute as a passive without casting the Intimidate spell. Check this out.
Here's some ideas from people on the forum:

Got3n for suggesting the Trifacta combo.

Side: Though he caused some distress in a few forums but this piece of info is actually really nice from him.

Comment: With someone commenting on spell doing misses if your Matk is too low compares to ememy's Mdef. Unless a Rogue has high int then you will want to copy those spell for the side effects (eg frozen) rather than your main attacking power. The disadvantage with this is high prereq (5 snatch <- 5 Sightless Mind <- 4 BS <- 2 Stalk <- 4 Mug <- 4 Gank) = 24 Skill points and maxing it = 34 skills points. Almost rendering Rogue to just a Spell Caster and not a very reliable one at that because your spell will be replaced once you got hit by another spell. This build needs int and Bow Rogue would suit this build very well with high dex/int as their main focus however, using bow requires IE and DS which is 20 skill points and this may not be enough Skill points for a effective bow build. Dagger however cannot distribute enough stat point to int for an effective caster also. So its more of a fun PvM build when you got bored. So get it if you feel like something different but for hardcore PvM or WoE not really recommended.

i. Divest Tree

Quote:

Forcibly strip the armor and weapon off a target. While used in PvP, the target cannot re-equip the armor and weapon for period of time.
For monsters, this skill decreases DEF of a monster by 10% (for Divest Armor), ATK 10% (for Divest Weapon) for a short amount of time. DEX difference between the caster and the target affects on the success chance.
25 SP for max level

This is the ultimate weapon in WoE and is what makes the Rogue unique than the rest of melee type classes. Looking at the formula again:

Quote:

5 + 2 * Skill Level + (Your DEX - Enemy DEX) / 5

You can say regardless of your enemy's Dex you still have 5 + 2*Skill Level chance = 15% to strip a target. (If enemy dex is greater than yours, it still be 15%). So it is still possible to strip wizzy and hunter for their shield and bow but it will take a few tries.

You need to get the skill in order from most useless to most useful, from helm Arrow shield Arrow armor Arrow weapon. Which is also the order you would use it reverse. Strip weapon first Arrow armor Arrow shield Arrow helm. Note depends on whether the target equip a shield or not, its generally better to strip shield first to get rid of the 30% damage reduction cards.

The time for weapon/armor disable is around 30 seconds.

And Alchemist will have potion to prevent you from stripping them which last for around 4 minutes.

You will know whether you have successfully stripped the enemy with a Sigh on the top of your head.

Comment: This is what Stripper lives for, just make sure you have high enough Dex 80+ to make the most use out of this skill and don't be afraid to strip a few more times during WoE as long as you keep a watch on yourself. A bow rogue is a nice combo with stripper because they rely on the same stat points DEX as their attacking power as well as their stripping chance. Thus leaving enough room for other stat such as agi, vit and str for arrows and potions carrying. Must for anyone wants to participate WoE and PvP but not so for pure PvM.

j. Slyness

Quote:
When more than 2 rogues sit beside each other, monsters will not attack them. Not usable on boss, insect, demon monsters.

Comment: This requires 2 rogues with the same skills and both of them need to be sitting down for this to work. Fat chance for that to happen, and why would you want to use it in the first place besides showing off factor. Apparently this works in WoE but only for Melee attack only, so you can sit with your guild member happily feeling each other thinking no one can hurt you in the heat of battle, meanwhile a wizzy comes along and SG or Hunter comes for some quick DS action. I would not get it unless I have no spare spell points.

Correction on one thing: Only one rogue needs slyness not both.. This was tested pre-amatsu though.

Still it may be nice to have if you have a rogue friend lvling with you so you can rest and regen HP/SP while in aggro area. Besides that.. well :rolleye:

Comment: you CANNOT stack this with discount clip, even if you equip a discount clip it will still do 25% or which ever skill has the highest percentage on you. In theory this is more than merchants OC 24% but 1% doesn't make that much of a difference. And the rereq for it is not worth the hassle. Just beg/bug/annoy/piss a merchant to do some DC for you. Or better still get a merchant yourself with 5 char slot in iRO now.

l. Graffiti Skills

Namely Scribble (1 red gem stones 15 SP), Remover (1 wet duster 5 SP) and Flag Graffiti skills (for writing on Guild Flags).

Comment: Wow I can draw something on the ground with 1 red gem which only last for a few seconds....and I've just spent 4 skill points for this! Forget about SM, BS, Gank, Stripping, Sightless, Intimidate, this is more fun!!!!

m. Bow Skills

Namely Vulture Eye, Double Strafe and Remove Trap.

Comment: Essential for Bow Rogue, the bad thing about it is you need to Max VE first in order to get DS. So that would be 20 skill points gone. Bear in mind though bow rogue has crappest ADSP using a bow and it is hard to level later on.

5. Rogue Builds.

This section will "hopefully" cover as many different build for Rogue as possible. As usual this is just for reference and you can always change according to your taste and needs.

Just like to re-enforce something here, for a melee character, whatever you do try to keep your Agi and Strength close together within 10 stat points. So 60 agi 50 str, 70 agi 60 str until you are higher level and knows what to develop your character into. I've seen so many 80 agi and 20 str rogue/thief/sin who thinks this class crap because he can't do any damage at all. There's nothing really wrong with 80 agi and 20 str as long as you know you will end up having enough strength for your need. But its the fact that you've limit yourself and severely affecting your leveling potential is what put off many 80 agi 20 str. So what if you can land 20 hits in 10s but each one is doing only 1xx damage. You will actually have to hit it 20 times to kill it. Meanwhile a 70 agi 60 str will have slower ADSP may be 15 attack per 10s but 2xx -3xx per hit, he only needs 10 - 12 stroke to kill it. And the difference between 4-5 ADSP in the low range 170ish is not such big difference, at least not twice as fast to justify the need for incredible speed. So this in effect will be taking half the time to eliminate the threat despite the slower ADSP and moving on to the next monster sooner for more exp. This is important because as you advance higher it will take longer to gain a level and the quicker you dispatch and move on to the next monster the faster you will level. Thus less boredom and prevent you wanting to quit this character.

All of the followings are based on the one and only <3Dashiva's stat calculator<3 and using Beserk potion.

a. Pure PvM

This is for those who doesn't want to participate in WoE or PvP but want to relax and have fun leveling solo or trying out Rogue for the first time. And this is base on a dagger rogue.

Stat at 99 all base with job bonus

str 90 + 6
agi 80 +7
vit 1 + 5
int 8 + 4
dex 60 + 7
luk 1

(35 points left for vit or agi or str)

With the usual equip Damascus/Gladius, Green Boot, Mantis Rings, Str/Agi Head gear, Speedy S.Thief and race buckler you can have:

If you are rich and can afford SGH (+3 str high and mid +4 def), bear in mind though with the new head gears its easier to get + 3 str on the head so this is possible

str 93 + 6 + 11 (mantis rings) = 110 strength!!
agi 80 +7 + 3 (Speedy Thief/ Green Boot)
vit 1 + 5
int 8 + 4
dex 60 + 7
luk 1

ADSP 177 and Flee 239
(with 3 stat points left)

You can adjust the amount of Str or Agi depending on your gear affordability, knowing not everyone could afford muscle rings, so you could replace muscle clip instead and add 2 more str and reduce some agi/dex accordingly.

After some playing around with the calculator, I can't see a nice agi PvM build which will still have 100 strength in order to increase your ADSP just by 1 or 2. So I don't think its worth it NOT to have 100 strength for PvM because that's how you could do 1k damage on Spring Rabbit etc. And believe me my Rogue just have 1k damage with 100 strength and the difference in leveling speed is quite a lot.

Also 60+ dex gives you a decent ganking rate, especially with the new steal formula later on where it is less dependent on Dex. So you can have it at 40 first and see what happens later.

Advantage of this build is good damage for double slash on Monsters (1k double slash possible) and not to mention BS RO-keke, with decent speed and a good ganking rate. Excellent flee to be able to level anywhere.

Disadvantage is there is no vit and you won't even last a few steps in WoE or PvP.

Skill wise

10 Gank (for richness)
10 Backstab (for coolness and fast killing on tough monsters)
10 Swordmastery (for added damage to kill faster)
4 Mug (Prereq for BS)
2 Stalk (Prereq for Sightless and cool for getting out mob situation)

13 skill points left

You can put the rest into

5 Sightless (for invisible monster like whisper and good mob control at times).
5 Snatch (for Prereq for intimidate)
3 Intimidate (at least for lv 3 heal LOL). Or gives up BS (at lv4) and SM (at lv9) to max this.

Or

no Stalk so you can have 5 Strip Helm Arrow 5 Strip Shield Arrow 5 Strip Armor (semi useful for WoE later if you wish).

Or

5 Stripe Helm Arrow 5 Strip Shield Arrow 3 Strip Armor

Or

5 Strip helm Arrow 3 Strip Shield Arrow 1 Sly Arrow 4 Haggle (for discount)

Any combination above up to you really.

b. Bow Rogue (PvM)

This is for those who wants to try using bow on a Rogue, which is also very suited for WoE because it only need to focus on Agi, Dex and Vit. A bit of strength if necessary. However remember Rogue has low bow ADSP and the highest maximum Dex he can get is 120 with all dex equipment. This is more for the advanturous person wanting to play an archer character in a Rogue sprite. Also remembering the fact that Bow can't gank and has 350% on BS. So its really up to you.

Stat at 99 all base with job bonus

str 14 + 6 = 20 (for Potion and Arrow Carrying)
agi 80 +7 + 3 (Nightmare glass, Green Boot, S.Thief) = 90
vit 1 + 5
int 30 + 4 = 34 (for SP regen for continuous DS)
dex 99 + 7 + 14 (AoA, Rocker Thief, Nimble Gloves and Arbalest) = 120
luk 1

ADSP 175 and Flee 249
(with 0 stat points left)

This is more for PvM and you can always use Malicious to regen HP for you.

For less equip dependent 120 dex character

str 15 + 6 = 21 (for Potion and Arrow Carrying)
agi 94 +7 + 2 (Green Boot, S.Thief) = 103
vit 1 + 5
int 32 + 4 = 36 (for next SP regen for continuous DS)
dex 94 + 7 + 9 (AoA, Nimble Clips) = 110
luk 1

ADSP 175 and Flee 252
(with 0 stat points left)

Of course you can twig which ever way you want lower for more vit or str or int. Entirely up to you but this is just an example of how you build a Bow Rogue for PvM.

Advantage for this build is long range, you can Double Strafe and Back Slide and repeat to kill the monster without touching you. You can use Malicious Bow effectively like Hunter for HP regen, good flee and can use elemental arrows.

Disadvantage is they are SLOW, and expensive for different bow and arrows. Also you need to reload arrows every so often. On the other hand this is SP intensive as well, all those DS, BS can drain your SP quite fast.

Skill wises:

10 VE
10 DS

Basically you have 29 skill points left thus you can max strip tree 26 (includding prereq).

4 Gank
2 Mug
20 Strip tree

(3 skill points left)

Or BS still would work with Bow too

4 Gank
4 Mug
10 BS

( 11 Skill left for Haggle perhaps to reduce on arrow cost?)

c. WoE Strippers

Here is your pure Stripper.

Stat at 99 all base with job bonus

str 20 + 6 = 26 ( for potion carrying)
agi 80 +7 + 1 (green boot) = 88 (for flee or general lvling)
vit 55 + 5 = 60 (gives you 9110 HP with Pupa and Matyr)
int 16 + 4 = 20 (with bless for next SP regen since you need to do lots of stripping)
dex 90 + 7 + 11 (nimble gloves, AoA) = 108
luk 1

9110 HP 606 SP and 237 Flee
(2 stat points left)

Of course you can go crazy with DEX and try for 110+ but really that doesn't really gives you a LOT more stripping chances. That's why I opt for 90 dex and gives the rest stat a good balance. Vit at 60 is sexy in WoE cos you can last longer to strip the others and also good for stun prevention or just shorten time of stun. Something more you can do is reduce agi to 70 and put them into str or vit. As with the next build...

Here is your Dagger Stripper.

Stat at 99 all base with job bonus

str 63 + 6
agi 70 +7
vit 45 + 5
int 14 + 4
dex 82 + 7
luk 1

8588 HP 608 SP and 227 Flee
(2 stat points left)

The beauty of this build is you can both level effectively with Dagger while you will be a decent stripper in WoE.

So when you want to go leveling whack in your strength gears So

str 63 + 6 + 11 (Mantis Rings, 3 str head gears) = 80
agi 70 +7 + 1 (Green boot)
vit 45 + 5
int 14 + 4
dex 82 + 7
luk 1

This will gives you 176 ADSP which is good for solo leveling.

When its time to WoE, bring on your Dex gears SO

str 63 + 6 + 1 (deverichi sunnies) = 70
agi 70 +7 + 1 (Green boot)
vit 45 + 5
int 14 + 4
dex 82 + 7 + 11 (Nimble Gloves and AoA) = 100 Dex
luk 1

Which gives you 23 - 27% of stripping provided the enemy has 60 - 40 dex. And once your stripped them you will still have decent strength (80 assuming you will get bless) to BS for good measures.

Of course you can vary this build to your liking, so perhaps you want 70 vit in exchange for 60 agi and 53 strength etc. But this is a more balance build to me.

Skill wise

4 Gank
2 Mug
20 Strip Tree a must for all strippers.

So you have 23 skill points left.

To you want to go for BS

2 more on Mug for prereq
10 BS
2 Stalk
6 more on Gank

3 skills point left for whatever so may as well Max Stalk for that extras increase in speed.

There is also a Hybrid PvM build which can use both Bow and Dagger and having 100 str/agi/dex respectively with buff of course. So you can shoot arrows from long range and close in for the kill, you can check it out here

With the new Intimidate spell got fixed, some theory was suggesting a Rogue could be a nice spell caster with Max Dex and Int as main build. But as I mention about the unreliability of the spell, it doesn't look like it going be a very valid build but nevertheless you can check it here.

6. Equipment

Rogue is not too bad in terms of equipment comparing to DDsin or Cri Sin. The bare minimum weapon for Rogue is all the elemental damascus, because damascus will always out do carded gladius if the monster has a elemental weakness (except when you can get endow from Sages). As well as one generic weapon for those who has no weakness on element (like Formless, Dark etc) you can use a Tri Boned or Tri Andre (Cheap) Gladius for those.

So:

+5/6/7 Elemental Damascus
(Wind Arrow Fire Arrow Earth Arrow Ice)
+7/8/9 Tri Boned (Skeleton Workers)Gladius or Tri Hurricane (Andre Card) Gladius

For WoE

+7/8/9 Tri Bloody Gladius (Hydra)
+8/9 Quad Stun MG

+7/8/9 Carded specific Gladius for example

Santa Poring ($$$) for Deviriuchi, Isis, Matyr etc
PecoPeco Egg for Mystcase, Crusiers etc (TF2 good money)
Goblin for Brute
Cameral for Insect (Emperium or DT)

Out of those I would get Santa Poring and PecoPecoEg because there's where you will most level on as a Rogue.

Headgear:

For head it is really up to you depending on your str or agi oriented.

I often recommend highly upgraded s.cap since it has 4 def and its cheap. And you can put card such as Nightmare (Sleep Immune and 1 agi), Deviruchi (Blind Immue and 1 str) depending on your need. Aim for a +7/8 or above for good defence and with opera mask, you will have 11.33% real defence.

Other useful headgears:

AoA (+3 Dex, 0 Def) - for those hardcore strippers.
GB (+2 Agi, 0 Def) - for those agi freaks
PooPoo Hat - for WoE
Angel Wing (1 agi, 1 luck), Sakket (1 agi, 3 def) - for agi
Evil Wing, Pirate Bandana (1 str) - for strength
Angel Helm (1 agi, 1 luck, 5 def) - better defence Angel Wing (ugly looking but)
Hat of Sun God (Solar Helm) (3 STRENGTH) - Best strength but heavy, expensive and use up both top and middle for medium defence.
Spiky - just for the defence.

Future headgears:

Check the full list here

Drooping Cat (15% Mdef, 30% Curse Resist, Def 1) cute and useful in WoE.
Burning Blood Bandana (2 Str, Upper, Def 1), great for strength but low defence.
Ears of Evil/Angel (1 str, Mid, Def 1) together with BBB above, provides a cheaper alternative for +3 strength headgear (SGH). Or combine with +8 Devurichi Cap good stat increase indeed.

Buckler all 3 race buckler:

Thara Frog (30% damage reduction from Demi-Human)
Big Foot (30% damage reduction from Insect)
Orc Warrior (30% damage reduction from Brute)

1 more because its falling like leafs after Amatsu...
Khalitzburg (30% damage reduction from Demon)
Rafflesia (30% damage reduction from Fish) RARE because the monster doesn't even exist yet! This is mainly from OCA.

Garment:

S.Mantau for garment, the usual Mocking (whisper), Immune (raydric), Rogue (Bap Jr) for agi freak +3 agi for the next ADSP, and other elemental card for WoE.

Armor:

S.Chain highest defence armor a rogue can equip, it has high defence but very heavy.
S.Thief Clothes useful for the +1 agi bonus, light weight but expensive for upgrade.
Other alternative, S.Padded cheaper 1 def differnce than S.Chain.

Card wise, for Rogue unless you have 60 vit + and lv 99, you won't be benefit from PecoPeco card since Rogue has low HP bonus. May as well stuck with Pupa (700 HP) if you want HP, Steel Chon Chon (+2 def), Theif Bug (+1 agi) and the rest of elemental card for WoE, Marcs, Pasanas etc.

Footgear:

S.Boot, first choice Green Boot (Matyr) for added HP and agi, then Verit both HP and SP and its getting cheaper these days, then Sohee for SP and sp regen and Male Thief Bug for agi freak again.

Accessories:

Muscle (Mantis) Clips/Ring - if you are rich
Nimble (Zerom) Clips/Glove - for the rich strippers
Or S.Brooches with Mantis, Zerom or Kukre cards for the agi freaks.

But generally use what will boost your stats the most and you also need to consider the reusability for other classes you may have as well as the resell value. (Since no one wants Kukre Gloves...)

7. Place to Level

With the new maps and monster arrangement since Amatsu and Kuloon. Here's some of the idea for leveling your Rogue.

Payon 4: Sohee is still good
Geffen 3: with Ice Dama and Gar Buck, god like spawn rate, minimum bots because of dopel, awesome job exp from marionettes, pure elus from jakks, whisper card, most monster have low hp low def high exp <-- Thanks sharptooth <3

65 - 75

Bib 4: good mob but watch out for Merman
Cmd_fld 01: Alligator (60 Instant), Poporing (20 Instant), Savage (30 Instant), P.Spore (20 Instant)

70 - 80

TF2: Good loot and exp
Mid 2/3: Matyr, Mummy, Isis all good

80 +

Mid 4: Good Isis Rate now, just FW from Mimic, Ancient Mummy is fun too (s.glove)
Sphnix 3/4 : Bring an Ice Dama and go kill Pasana, Mino and Marduk.
Prison 1/2: nice alternative for ganking and decent exp there.

85+

TI1 : With Fire and Earth Dama with Big foot and Orc War Buckler and you could solo all the way to 99 here.
Sea Otters, Seal all very nice too if you got bored.

All of the above is just a suggestion, if anyone try out new places wanting to share, let me know and I will update it.

Hope you enjoyed!

  • No I'm not any bots.

Oh well... I was doing random searching in google, and I found your blog in the search results. Yeah, I'm also "Yamaki"...

But anyways, I'm also training a Rogue in eRo Malaysia version, and currently training in Louyang. Yeah, I'm killing Increase Soils. Currently, I've finished my 50 Job levels, but I've used it fully on Strips, but my dex is only at 50 something. Yeah, I have 100+ agi, but I don't know. Currently I'm doing Strength, as it's really low... (yeah, less than 10, FYI). I'm currently Lvl 87, so I guess I could catch up, but anyways, I'm aiming to be a stalker (I don't know whether it's implemented in iRO or not, but it is here in eRO Malaysia).

    Haha. ^_^
